Where to start?

Not sure where to start with IT management? Here's MagikINFO in a nutshell — what it solves, how to roll it out, and where to begin so it delivers value from day one.

Simply install agents on your computers

Agents can be installed on computers in several ways — for example through the Network Control Centre screen, or by distributing them via a GPO policy. The agents on each computer collect data on installed software and hardware configuration, and track the user's activity. There's no need to worry about an agent bogging the computer down — its impact on system load is close to zero.

Within minutes, you get detailed information about your computers

An overview of installed applications, operating systems, office suites or media files can be pulled together very quickly. Finding out which computers have, say, the latest version of Adobe Reader installed becomes trivial. Full licence management is also available, tied to your purchase documents — giving you visibility while helping you avoid the risk of penalties over gaps in software licensing.

Always keep an up-to-date overview of all your IT assets

Keep your IT assets recorded so that at any moment you can see where an asset is, who it's assigned to, whether it's being repaired, or when its next inspection is due. Every movement of an asset is automatically logged in the database, building a complete lifecycle for each item. A few clicks are also enough to see all the assets assigned to a user and print handover reports.

Print barcodes and run a mobile stock-take

MagikINFO lets you assign barcodes to assets, edit them easily and print them out. Using a mobile app that talks to the asset database, you can then run regular stock-takes straight from a phone. The app shows the expected location, compares the actual state against the records, and logs any changes along with the stock-take date.

Print handover reports…

MagikINFO includes plenty of print reports and report templates, plus a designer where you can adapt documents to match your company's own style. You can print various asset reports (handover, return and others), or computer specification sheets for employees to sign — which also shifts a share of the responsibility for any unlicensed software directly onto the user.

…or have assets confirmed online through the portal

It's not just statistics on the number of installations and purchased licences. You also get information on how applications are actually used. In a few quick steps you can see how many users opened, say, Excel, how much time they spent in it, and even how many characters they typed into individual documents. Just as easily, you can see which websites are visited most, or who spends the most time online.

Spot the users who are just coasting

MagikINFO includes reports that show you who's pulling their weight — and, at the other end of the spectrum, the employees who are just coasting along. You'll see who spends the most time on non-work activities, whether that's games or social media. There's also a work profile — a comparative report that ranks employees by time spent on non-work activity. You can also block unwanted websites or applications, track what employees copy onto USB flash drives, or block all or unauthorised flash drives outright.

Keep printing costs under control

Collect information on what documents, images or books are printed on your printers, whether networked or local. This includes the document name, number of pages, number of copies, and whether it was printed in colour. Depending on the printer type, you can see printing costs and then work on optimising them.

Install, uninstall, copy and delete remotely and in bulk

Through the Remote Distribution module, you can define actions that run on a scheduled interval across selected computers. This can mean installing software, uninstalling unwanted applications, copying and deleting files or folders, or running scripts. You get feedback on the status of each action, with its progress documented quickly and precisely.

Event notifications and reports available from anywhere

All the important information is available both directly in the application and through the web portal in your browser. That means you have an overview of everything that matters, any time, from anywhere. On top of that, you can have notifications and reports with key information sent straight to your email.

Centralise the management of user requests

Build a single environment for managing user requests. The right request-management system solves a lot of things at once — it keeps users happy with how their issues get resolved, builds a knowledge base for recurring problems, helps organise the work of the IT department (and others), and saves a great deal of time along the way.

Keep an overview — and every request under control

Every user request, whether submitted through a web form or by email, stays under control at all times. Classification in a category catalogue, priority and a resolution deadline that reflects working hours for that category, a sophisticated email notification system and much more keep the request under control — for the user, the agent and the manager alike.
